Collectif Urgence Toxida (CUT) is a Mauritian network of NGOs offering services in the field of Harm Reduction in relation to drug use. Harm Reduction refers to policies, programmes and practical strategies that aim primarily to reduce the adverse health, social and economic consequences of the use of legal and illegal psychoactive drugs without necessarily reducing drug consumption. Harm reduction benefits people who use drugs, their families and the community. The harm reduction approach to drugs is based on a strong commitment to public health and human rights. Our Vision A Mauritian society free from repression, stigma & discrimination towards people who use drugs, where the approach towards drugs is based on evidence-informed policies, with a public health and human rights perspective and where the rights of all citizens, irrespective of drug consumption, are equally respected. Our Mission CUT’s mission is to offer harm reduction services to the community of people who use drugs and to advocate for the respect of the rights of the community of people who use drugs to eliminate all forms of violence, abuse, stigma and discrimination against them. CUT also aims at providing prevention services to the population at large to positively influence the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviour with regard to substances. We work in partnership with government agencies, the private sector, international organisations, the media and community-based networks to rally support and resources in order to achieve our vision. Our Target Group CUT’s strategies and actions serve the community of people who use drugs in Mauritius, including their partners and families, whose basic rights are being violated.
